چکیده
increased trend toward the use of advanced medical imaging for the diagnosis and assessment of SpondyloArthritis (SpA) (1, 2). MRI of the sacro-iliac (SI) joints has become a key-imaging technique for the detection of early non-radiographic axial SpA and has been shown to contribute to optimized clinical decisionmaking (3). The current paper aims at summarizing recent advances in the understanding of the disease, the questions from the clinicians, as well MRI protocols and findings in SpA. Pitfalls and differential diagnosis for SI changes will be addressed.

Relationships between ultrasound enthesitis, disease activity and axial radiographic structural changes in patients with early spondyloarthritis: data from DESIR cohort
BACKGROUND To search for association between ultrasound (US) enthesis abnormalities and disease activity, spine and sacro-iliac joints (SIJ) MRI inflammatory lesions and spine structural changes in a cohort of patients suspected for axial spondyloarthritis (SpA). METHODS Patients: Of 708 patients included in the DESIR(Devenir des Spondyloarthrites Indifférenciées Récentes) cohort, 402 had an ...
متن کاملSacro-iliac joint in adult rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthropathy.
Sacro-iliitis is held to be an early and constant sign of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a frequent sign of Reiter's disease, and one by which it is possible to distinguish these diseases radiologically from rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Recently Cohen, McNeil, Sharp, Schubart, Calabro, and Calkins (1959), in a combined clinical and radiological study of AS and RA, briefly noted that "the sacro-ilia...

BACKGROUND Pelvic ring disruption when treated conservatively can be associated with prolonged hospital stay and immobilization, mal-union, chronic pain, limb length discrepancy if they are treated conservatively. Open reduction and fixation in an already compromised soft tissue and hemodynamically unstable patient causes more soft tissue injury, heamatoma, infection and neurovascular injury. P...
متن کاملManipulation of the Sacro-Iliac Joint
As recently as 1937, Horace C. Pitkin in an article in the "Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery" wrote: "Manipulative surgery is a therapeutic waif of lowly origin whose infancy and childhood have been shielded from the light of reason by a congenital veil of empiricism and quackery." Yet in spite of such hereditary handicaps, it continues to thrive wonderfully; and perhaps in no better field tha...
متن کاملSacral insufficiency fracture detected by FDG-PET/CT: report of 2 cases.
We report 2 cases of sacral insufficient fracture detected by FDG-PET/CT. In case 1, a 79-year-old female patient with malignant lymphoma, who had recent lumbago, received FDG-PET/CT examination. Vertical linear FDG uptake medial to bilateral sacro-iliac joint was observed on FDG-PET and a fracture line corresponding to FDG uptake was observed in bone window of CT images. In case 2, an 81-year-...
